Trinamool fields candidates from Varanasi, Rae Bareli

Our fight is against Congress’ corruption & BJP’s communalism, says Mamata Banerjee

The Trinamool Congress on Wednesday declared a list of 18 candidates from Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, taking the total number of seats it is contesting in the Lok Sabha elections to 104 in 17 States.

In Uttar Pradesh, the party has fielded 19 candidates, including Umesh Mishra for the high-profile Rae Bareli constituency, represented by Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

The party has announced Indira Tiwari, the granddaughter of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kamalapati Tripathi, as its candidate from Varanasi from where the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi, is contesting.

After fielding candidates against both Mr. Modi and Ms Gandhi, Trinamool Congress chairperson Mamata Banerjee said her fight is against the “corruption” of the Congress and “communalism” of the BJP.

“We will be putting up candidates in Kerala and Tripura so as to put the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in a tight corner,” she said at a party meeting on Tuesday.

In Kanpur, the Trinamool candidate is Anil Awasthi while in Azamgarh, Madanmohan Mishra will be fighting on the Trinamool Congress symbol.

Lucknow seat

In the equally prestigious Lucknow constituency, the Trinamool candidate is Mohammed Sarvar Malik while in Pilbhit, Sitaram Rajput will fight on behalf of the Trinamool Congress.

In Sitapur, Jagadish Narayan Shukla will be fighting on the Trinamool symbol and for Phulpur constituency, the party has chosen Prabhu Narayan Srivastava.

In Delhi, the party has fielded Hari Om Sharma from Chandni Chowk, Mohhammed Syed Siddiqui from East Delhi and Harinath Ram from North West Delhi.

The party has already announced that yesteryear actor Biswajit Chatterjee will contest from New Delhi.

In Chandni Chowk, Mr. Sharma will be up against Dr. Harsh Vardhan of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Union Minister Kapil Sibal of the Congress and former journalist Ashutosh from the Aam Aadmi Party.

The contest in East Delhi is equally keen with Mr. Siddiqui facing Rajmohan Gandhi of the AAP, sitting MP Sandeep Dikshit of the Congress and social worker Mahesh Giri of the BJP.
