Senior Trinamool Congress Ministers said here on Friday that issuing an apology was not enough, and called for social boycott of senior Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Anisur Rahaman, who made offensive remarks against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The remarks were made in the context of compensation to rape victims.

“Anisur Rahaman should be socially boycotted for what he had said,” Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim told journalists at the Secretariat.

Stating that the leaders of the CPI(M) had made derogatory remarks against Ms. Banerjee and other important State leaders, Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Subrata Mukherjee said that making such comments had become the party’s tradition.

“There cannot be any damage control for what he has said. We condemn the remarks,” Mr. Mukherjee said.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Partha Chatterjee has sent a notice for a privilege motion against the CPI(M) legislator on Thursday.

Atrocious: Brinda

PTI reports:

Mr. Anisur Rahaman also earned the ire of senior party colleague Brinda Karat who described as “atrocious and completely unacceptable” his remarks. “In politics, there is legitimate criticism against an opponent if you are using political language, but this type of language against a woman leader is totally unacceptable,” Ms. Karat said.
