: Trees will be planted along the National Highways passing through Haryana. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed between the Haryana Forest Department and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in the presence of Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari and Haryana Forest and Public Works (Building and Roads) Minister Rao Narbir Singh in New Delhi on Friday.
Touch of green
Under the MoU, areas along National Highway-10 from New Delhi border to Dabwali and National Highway-52 from Kaithal to Rajasthan border will be developed as green areas.
Shady fruit trees will be planted, and the Haryana Forest Department will take care of these plants for the next five years.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Gadkari said the National Green Highways Mission had been launched to promote greenery on National Highways. Under this, trees would be planted along 1,500 kilometre of highways passing through various States.
First phase
He said that in Haryana, a road length of 415 kilometre had been included in the first phase.
He also suggested that the State government beautify the Eastern and Western Peripheral Roads Expressways.
Haryana Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Amarinder Kaur signed the MoU on behalf of the Haryana government, and Chief General Manager, NHAI, M.K. Jain, signed on behalf of the NHAI.
