Train service was affected in several places outside Patna in response to a call for Bihar bandh by teachers, who were lathi-charged on Tuesday. However, there was no significant impact in the State capital.

Trains were delayed as protesters stopped them in Bhojpur, Begusarai, Darbhanga and other districts. “We have got very good response from every district. Schools and offices remained shut,” Akhilesh Kumar, general secretary of the Bihar Rajya Prathmik Sikshak Sangh (Association of Primary Teachers in Bihar), told The Hindu .

“In Patna city, traffic was normal and shops were also open,” Senior Superintendent of Police told The Hindu .

Teachers’ organisations staged protests in the city. Lok Jan Shakti Party supporters also joined the agitation. A special team has been formed, headed by city SP Jayant Kant, to investigate the incident. The police would be sifting through a lot of video footage as part of the probe.

The Opposition on Thursday protested in the well of the House for the second day in row. The government has not yet given any indication of addressing the teachers’ demands.
