Top Hizb militant killed

A top militant of the Hizbul Mujahideen was killed during a joint operation by the Army and the police in Sopore area of northern Kashmir on Sunday.

Official sources said the 50-year-old militant, Mohammad Shafi Sheikh of Zaloora, got killed in a gunfight when units of Rashtriya Rifles 22nd battalion and Special Operations Group of the J&K Police raided his hideout at Seelu early on Sunday morning.

A pistol was found near his body.
