Top Harkat militant among two killed in J&K encounter

A top Harkat-ul-Mujahideen militant was among two ultras killed in an encounter with security forces in Sopore town of North Kashmir on Wednesday.

A defence spokesman said the encounter started on Tuesday in Haigham, 50 km from here, in which an Army jawan was killed.

The slain ultra was identified as Nouman, self-styled divisional commander of the militant organisation. He was a Pakistani national and involved in an attack on Lal Chowk here in February, 2010.

Sepoy Sanjay Kumar belonging to the Rashtriya Rifles was killed in the encounter on Tuesday.
