The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) here resembles an army garrison what with Central and State forces being deployed round the clock to protect doctors, paramedics and the institute from militant attacks.

There have been bomb attacks at the RIMS and on the residences of top officials. The administrative block was partially damaged during the attacks.

There is a growing fear psychosis among doctors and lawyers in the State following increasing murders, grenade attacks and kidnappings by militants. Those responsible for these heinous crimes are yet to be arrested.

RIMS Director L. Fimate has been provided with armed security following his kidnapping, grenade attacks on his residence apart from a bomb blast near his office. Medical Superintendent Y. Mohen had escaped two grenade attacks. He is also provided with security. The administrative block and the hospital complex are guarded by CRPF personnel.

Demanding action against militants, doctors and paramedics have launched a three-hour cease work agitation, affecting health services. Almost all private hospitals have not been functioning protesting the attacks.

It is alleged that militants are extorting money from doctors and lawyers, asking them to pay illegal taxes. The police are clueless to the attacks.
