The police have tightened security at the Eden Gardens here in the wake of the twin blasts at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on Saturday, officials said on Sunday.
“All cities have to be on alert. Just because it happened in Bangalore, it does not mean that it could not happen here,” Kolkata Commissioner of Police Gautam Mohan Chakrabarti said. Several teams from the detective department were inspecting the grounds and gathering information, which would be reviewed at a high-level meeting at the police headquarters. “Security is always high at the grounds, but more security measures will be put in place for tomorrow's [Monday's] game.”
Monday's match between the Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians is the last game scheduled at the venue in this season of the IPL.
Bags not allowed
Mr. Chakrabarti said spectators would not be allowed to carry any bags into the grounds. “Very small bags used by women may be allowed inside, but other than that, no one will be permitted inside with a bag.” he said.
