The newly-appointed Assam State president of the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP), Ranjit Dutta, on Friday said that electoral understanding of his party with the Asom Gana Parishad(AGP) would continue for the 2011 Assembly elections.

When asked to comment on decision by the Steering Committee and the central executive committee of the AGP to review the electoral tie-up of seat-sharing between the two parties, Mr. Dutta told journalists in his maiden press conference that State unit of the BJP had not received any communiqué from the regional party in that regard.

“The electoral tie-up that was reached between our party and the AGP during the last Lok Sabha polls will continue till 2011 Assembly polls,” Mr. Dutta said .

He urged the party leaders and workers to go to villages for mass contact with grassroots workers and common masses to gear up for the polls. Accusing the Congress-led government of failing to check sky- rocketing prices of essential commodities, Mr. Dutta alleged that the State government was in league with unscrupulous traders.

He also demanded the Centre to take with Bangladesh the issue of neighbouring country taking back all post 1971 illegal infiltrators to Assam.
