Two days after they went missing from school, their bodies were found in a well
Police on Monday declared that three sisters whose bodies were found in a well on Saturday near Murmadi village in Lakhani town of Bhandara district in Maharashtra “were raped and then killed”.
The girls, aged 11, 8, and 6, went missing on February 14 from their village. The grandfather of the girls had lodged a police complaint the same day after the girls’ classmates brought back only the school bags of the two younger sisters.
A villager found the bodies in a well at a farmhouse about half a km from the village.
Speaking to reporters here on Monday, Inspector General (IG) of Police, Nagpur Range, Rajendra Singh, said: “The findings of the post-mortem report suggested that there was sexual assault on all three girls. But the report is not clear on how they were killed.”
Tensions are running high in Bhandara district with politicians giving a bandh call and demanding the arrest of the culprits.
Initially, police said the girls were killed in an accident, but on Sunday thousands of people from Murmadi, Lakhani and nearby villages blocked the National Highway 6 for over six hours, calling the death of three sisters as murder and demanding swift action in the case.
Police also resorted to lathi charge to control the crowd.
The girls had lost their father five years ago and were being brought up by their mother and grandparents. Bhandara SP Arati Singh has been camping in Lakhani town and a larger number of police personnel have been deployed in and around the area. The victims’ family and villagers alleged laxity on the part of Lakhani Police Inspector Munde, after which he was shifted to Bhandara city.

This is something really wrenching and shocking... what has gone wrong
in deploying the safety for women in India after all the commissions
and laws being made??? forget about women... these are kids... A 6
year, 8 year and 11 years... what is happening to the land of culture,
morals and ethics??? where women and Kids are equated to Gods... where
exactly things went wrong? and what exactly is the solution for this
ghastly incidences where even kids are not spared?
This issue will remain unless we the people of this country play an active role in this. We need to target the main source of all such crimes which in most cases is substance abuse and especially alcohol consumption. A drunkard cannot differentiate between right and wrong. So all these girls, aged just between 5 and 11, were just a sex object for them. So even after the alarming rise we see in the number of rape cases, we are ironically seeing an alarming rise in the number of liquor shops around us.
Another important thing is to promote neighborhood watch system.
Following the Delhi incident and the repercussions that it created nationwide, I had a glimmer of hope. However, this is definitely not the result I had hoped for.
Wheneve a rape occurs, we always look at the culprit. The culprits who indulge in these kind of acts are mere symptoms of a major defect. To cure the defect, one needs to identify and destroy the source that is producing these symptopms. I for one believe (1) the movie industry is to be blamed for. Money-oriented producers, directors and actors are going on full-throttle disregarding the moral and intellectual principles that needs to be adhered to; (2) a certain group of young women are treading along the wrong path infatuated by the stupidity of fashion. With inappropriate and insufficient clothings, they demand full security. It's like saying "I will stay in a locked cage with a starving lion. But it shouldn't eat me." Innocent and civilized women fall prey to the impression these scantly-clad women leave on men's minds.

All the evil that happens on Earth demonstrates that we have not made much progress as a species. With all the advances in science and technology,chemistry/biology, medicine, etc. we cannot seem to exorcise the demons from the human brain. Terribly sad and there's no end in sight.
The entire state machinery shoudl be put to use to catch the barbaric criminals.
The criminals should exprience the pain of the children, the punishment should make death as a welcome releif.
This kind of barbaric acts turns me into a barbarian too.

its really embarrassing for whole the nation. its only 1 month of Delhi
rape case and also people protect and demand for strong law against
rape. in spite of all these rape and murder happening. that mean there
is need of proper research on the reasons of rape cases and also proper
implementation of exiting anti-rape laws.
Absence of gender based morality and socialization also leads to such
incident under patriarchal society in India. Mobilizing people for
protest is easy but changing own behavior towards women is difficult
and there is need of it. there is also need to support of society to
give security and protection for their Girls and women in their own
society specially for marginal and disadvantage group of people. If
society themselves observed and look after their women then such kind
of incident will reduce from its beginning point and the begging point
is underestimate women's power by their social,political and economical
status in the society.
Scientific and rational steps should be taken to solve the case. Police
should use and implement theirs skills and expertise to prepare a
qualitative report that will help the judicial system to come to a
conclusion on this case asap.
India is hopeless.
Absolutely. There was a time, we could have thought abt bringing in reformation. I see that hope totally lost. The land is full of monsters devoid of any sanity or compassion. Not even a baby girl is safe here, leave alone the ladies. We are marching towards our end, a very gruesome one. The corrupt machinery is just eating the rest of the crumbling nation. Sad are we.
This is such a sad incident, following the ghastly rape and murder of a lady in Bihar belonging to a lower strata. And The Hindu places that news nowhere in the paper. And this incident, so horrifying has been placed somewhere inside where one can for sure miss the item. Biased and sad, exactly what we are.
I don't know what to say abt the incident. Much saddening and just too terrible.
