Three LeT militants were killed in a fierce gunbattle with security forces in Rajwar area of Handwara, in northern Kashmir, on Tuesday.

Kashmir Inspector General of Police Abdul Gani Mir told The Hindu that the troops of the Rashtriya Rifles 21 battalion and the Special Operations Group of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, who launched a cordon and search operation on a tip-off about the militants' presence on Monday, destroyed the hideout at Wali Mohammad Ganai's house at Ganai Mohalla of Shatpora Rajpora on Tuesday morning.

Three AK-47 rifles and an equal number of charred bodies were recovered from the debris. Even as two soldiers suffered injuries, there was no civilian casualty as all the residents were successfully evacuated from the neighbourhood before the final assault, Mr. Mir said. The militants were identified as the Pakistani cadres of the Lashkar-e-Taiba — Abu Waqas, Qari Nomaan and Ubaid.
