Three Maoists surrender in Chhattisgarh

Three Maoists surrendered before police in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on Monday.

Mediyami Deva alias Chamaru (20), Shankar Vedja (25) alias Bebdu and his wife Kope Vedja (23), surrendered before Bijapur district Superintendent of Police (SP) Prashant Agrawal on Monday night, said the police.

Shankar Vedja and his wife Kope were the members of Company No.2 of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) and carried a reward of Rs.1 Lakh on each of them, informed Bijapur police.

All three Maoists surrendered with pistols and were given Rs. 10, 000 as “encouragement fund” for surrendering before police.

Meanwhile, suspected Maoists set on fire two construction vehicles on Sukma-Konta road hardly three kilometres away from Sukma district headquarters.
