Three persons were killed after being buried under huge mound of snow as an avalanche struck a forest area in Uri sector of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday, police said.

The three - Din Mohammad Sood (45), Mohammad Karim Sood (50) and Mohammad Latief Sood (30) - had gone to the forests in Trikanjan area near Line of Control (LoC) to collect wild mushrooms when the avalanche occurred, police said.

A rescue team was rushed to the scene and bodies were recovered.

Avalanches in the upper reaches of the Valley are common occurrence during spring as rising temperatures caused melting of the snow on the mountains.
