A Delhi court on Thursday convicted three youths for kidnapping, gang raping and murdering a 19-year-old girl whose mutilated and decomposed body was recovered from a Haryana village in 2012.

While pronouncing the verdict, Additional Sessions Judge Virender Bhat said, “You have been convicted under Section 363 (kidnapping), 376(2)(g)(gang rape) and 302 (murder) of the IPC.”

The court fixed February 17 for arguments on quantum of sentence. The victim’s family had sought death sentence for all the three convicts — Vinod, Ravi and Rahul.

According to the prosecution, the girl was kidnapped by the three youths in a car near her house in Qutub Vihar in New Delhi and was gang raped and murdered by them on February 9, 2012.

Prosecutor Satwinder Kaur told the court that the victim’s mutilated body was found three days after the incident from a mustard field in Rodhai village in Haryana’s Rewari district. Ms.Kaur said the convicts had poured acid into the victim’s eyes, inserted a broken liquor bottle into her private parts and then left her there to die.
