Three civilians were injured in twin grenade blasts in South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday afternoon.

Stepping up attacks in South Kashmir, militants struck twice in Shopian district, 50 km away from Srinagar, and hurled grenades at security forces.

“Militants first hurled a grenade at the Police Station Shopian first. Immediately, another grenade was tossed at the town's main square, 200 metre away from the police station,” said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Shopian, Shalinder Mishra.

Three civilians received splinter wounds in the two attacks.

The attack comes a day after militants fired upon a police colony in adjacent Kulgam district during the night, spreading panic in the area.

Both Kulgam and Shopian have been tense for weeks now following the police crackdown on militant supporters. Brothers of two LeT militants have also been rounded up in the clampdown. Parts of the twin districts observed a shutdown against the arrest spree.
