Three Bangladeshi youth have been arrested by the Anti-Terror Squad of the Uttar Pradesh police for possessing fake Aadhaar cards and living illegally in India.

They were apprehended at the Lucknow Railway Station on Wednesday while they were boarding the Howrah-Amritsar Express, police said on Thursday.

The three were identified as Mohammad Imran, Razidudeen and Mohammad Firdaus. The three are brothers and natives of Jessore district of Bangladesh.

UP ATS Inspector General Aseem Arun said the three had confessed during questioning that they were Bangladeshis living illegally in India. "Fake Aadhaar cards with wrong names and addresses were recovered from them — they were arrested for this crime," Mr. Arun said.

The ATS is probing if the three have links with any terror group. The three came under the scanner of police forces after the ATS received information that they had fled from a madrasa in Deoband, Saharanpur, in a suspicious manner.

All three youth either studied or taught at the seminary. The ATS said it would question the three youth why they suddenly fled from the madrasa in Deoband.

The ATS is probing if the three arrested youth have any connection with the Bangladeshi youth nabbed from Muzaffarnagar in August on the suspicion of being a member of the Ansarullah Bangla Team, a banned outfit under scanner for the murders of atheists and liberal bloggers in Bangladesh.

On August 6, the ATS had arrested Abdullah Al Mamoon from Muzaffarnagar's Kutesara area on charges of sheltering terrorists and facilitating them in securing themselves in India through fake documents and identity cards.

During questioning, Abdullah had revealed names of some of his associates, the ATS said. Following this, on September 12, a hunt operation for his associates was conducted in various madrasas in Deoband.
