Three persons, including two brothers, have been arrested by the Faridabad Police in connection with an attack on a auto-rickshaw driver and a minor on the suspicion of carrying beef. The two were waylaid and brutally beaten up by a mob of 60-odd people in Kureshipur village here on Friday.

The Faridabad Police said that three people were identified on the basis of the video clip of the incident and were arrested on Sunday. The trio has been identified as Lakhan, Dileep and Ram Kumar. Brothers Lakhan and Dileep are residents of Peer Colony. Ram Kumar stays at Pali village.

“Based on the interrogation of the three, more people will be identified and soon arrested,” said a Faridabad Police spokesperson.

Polio-stricken auto-rickshaw driver Azad and a minor were on their way from Fatehpur to Old Faridabad carrying buffalo meat on Friday when they were waylaid by six persons in a car near Bajri village around 7 a.m. and taken to a cremation ground. Soon, others also joined them and beat up the duo.

Azad, 27, a resident of Nehru Colony, claimed that the torture lasted for almost five hours till around noon and the accused continued to beat them up even in the presence of policemen. Though Azad claimed that the accused were Bajrang Dal activists, Astha Modi, Deputy Commissioner of Police, NIT, Faridabad, said that it could not be confirmed yet if they were indeed so.

The duo claimed that the accused asked them to chant “Hanuman Ki Jai” and “Gau Mata Ki Jai” and tortured them when they refused.
