Three arrested for abducting, killing engineer in Assam

Three persons have been arrested for allegedly abducting and killing an engineer of state irrigation department here, police said on Friday.

The police arrested the driver of Manik Baishya, who was abducted in his official car from Khanapara last evening and found dead today in Jalukbari here, along with the former’s brother and an accomplice from Bonda area here, they said.

A private driver, hired about four months ago, had strangulated him, they said, adding, post-mortem showed finger marks of three different persons on his neck.

The driver also sent a ransom note, in the name of ULFA, to Mr. Baishya, who agreed to pay Rs. 15 lakh, they said.

Police did not immediately suspect the outlawed outfit’s involvement in the incident.
