Tension prevailed in a village in the district after a community panchayat banned entry of Dalits into agricultural fields, even as police stepped up security to avert any untoward incident.

The panchayat had on Monday decided to ban entry of Dalits in the fields of Wazirabad village after a Dalit filed an FIR against a person from the upper caste, alleging that he had attempted to rape his wife on September 10, police said on Wedensday.

The panchayat was of the view that the person was being “falsely” implicated.
