Tension in old city following clash in Lucknow

Tension erupted in old city area here after members of two sects of minority community clashed with each other and indulged in heavy brick-batting, damaging vehicles, police sources said here on Monday.

The incident occurred at Dargah Hazrat Agha road in Sadatganj area when youths of one sect allegedly passed lewd comments on some girls of other sect who were going to attend a religious ceremony late last night, they said.

The youths later thrashed the members of the other sect, they added.

However, it snowballed into a controversy as members of both the sects assembled on the spot and indulged in heavy brick-batting, damaging some vehicles, they said.

Heavy force led by senior officers reached the spot and in a bid to control the situation police chased away the trouble makers, they said.

Though police denied reports that nearly six persons from both sides were injured in the clash.

Meanwhile, heavy force had been deployed in the area to avert further clashes as tension continued.
