Tejaswini Sawant, who became the first Indian woman shooter to clinch a gold medal at the World Championships, met Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray here on Thursday.

Ms. Sawant, accompanied by Kolhapur ‘sampark pramukh’ of Sena, Arun Dudhwalkar, met the Sena chief at Matoshree, his suburban residence in Bandra.

Maharashtra cabinet on Wednesday congratulated Tejaswini Sawant for her feat at the World Championships in Munich, Germany.

Ms. Tejaswini shot a world-record equalling score of 597 (100,100,100,99,99,99) in the 50m Rifle Prone event to finish on top. She equalled the 1998 record set by Marina Bobkova of Russia.
