Teenager assaulted by Army jawan, dies

A 19-year-old youth, who was allegedly kicked in the stomach by an Army jawan in Rajouri district, has died of his injuries, police said on Thursday.

The deceased, identified as Rakesh Kumar, a native of Kewal Budhal area, was allegedly assaulted by Ajay earlier, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Rajouri, Mubasir Latifi said.

“Three days back, the boy was kicked in the stomach by the accused following which he was rushed to a hospital. His parents did not file a complaint that time. However, his condition deteriorated and he was referred to Jammu.

“Rakesh died on his way to Jammu today,” Mr. Latifi said.

A murder case has been registered in this regard and a police team dispatched to arrest the jawan, who belongs to Argidalori area of the district, he said.

The motive behind the alleged killing was “still a matter of investigation,” he said, adding that an autopsy was conducted.
