A teenaged boy, who was battling for life after being hit by a tear smoke shell during protests last year, succumbed to injuries today, officials said.

14-year-old Mohammad Aarif Bhat died early this morning at his residence in Habbakadal area of the city and was laid to rest at Eidgah graveyard, they said.

Bhat was hit by a tear smoke shell allegedly fired by police to quell protests at Maisuma near Budshah Chowk in October last year. He had later slipped into coma at the hospital.

He was shifted to his house, where he was under treatment, for the past several months.
