A school teacher was gunned down on Monday by suspected Maoists at Jhargram in West Midnapore district.

Guhiram Singh, a CPI(M) member and teacher at Chandabila primary school, was picked up from his house by a group of 40 Maoists and taken to nearby Kadakhota jungle. There he was shot in the head and chest, police said.

Passersby noticed the body and informed the police.

Posters stating that the teacher was “corrupt” and had been “punished” were recovered from the spot, they said.

This was the second killing in a fortnight under Nayagram police station.

Earlier, Bhagwat Singh, a zilla parishad member and resident of Kalmapukuria, was killed by Maoists.
