Task force to deal with potato crisis in Odisha

Emerging out of the meeting, the Minister said that the three member committee will study various aspects of the issue and submit its report within 30 days.

Even though there is a continued shortage of potato in many parts of Odisha, the State government on Wednesday announced the formation of a task force to formulate a long term action plan for the production, preservation and distribution of potato in the State to tide over the crisis in future.

The decision to set up a three-member task force, to be headed by the Secretary of the Agriculture Department, was taken at a meeting that was chaired by Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Sanjay Kumar Das Burma.

30 days Emerging out of the meeting, the Minister said that the three member committee will study various aspects of the issue and submit its report within 30 days.

The required measures will be taken to avoid shortage of potato in the State in the future, Mr. Das Burma said.

It was decided in the meeting that the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department would have a buffer stock of four lakh quintals of potatoes in different cold storages before August next year to cope with the crisis situation.

Arrangements will be made to make potato available through the public distribution system from August to December next year, an official said.
