Suspended Delhi Police ACP B.S. Ahlawat was booked on Thursday under Section 323 of the Indian Penal Code for causing “hurt” by slapping a woman anti-rape protester, a police official said.

“The case was registered after the victim lodged a complaint on Tuesday against the ACP. The probe has begun,” the officer said.

A case under section 323 of the Indian Penal Code (voluntarily causing hurt) has been registered against Mr. Ahlawat, the officer added.

Mr. Ahlawat was suspended after TV channels beamed visuals showing him slapping a woman protestor April 19 at Swami Dayanand Hospital in east Delhi, where the five-year-old girl who was gang-raped, was being treated.
