The Chhattisgarh police on Thursday took 11 persons into custody from various villages of Sukma district for “questioning” in connection with last month’s Maoist attack in which 25 CRPF personnel were killed.

“We have apprehended 11 suspects from Sukma. They are being questioned,” Abhishek Meena, Superintendent of Police, Sukma district, told The Hindu .

“They [suspects] belong to various villages between Chintalnar and Chintagufa. Some of them have accepted that they were involved in it [the April 24 Maoist attack on the CRPF] and they are also giving details about it. It will take some time to bring them to Sukma from Chintalnar and Chintagufa,” the SP added.

However, P. Sundar Raj, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Dantewada range), said the suspects had not been “detained.” “They are only being interrogated. If there is any evidence of involvement, they would be arrested and produced before court,” the DIG said.

The April 24 Maoist attack on the CRPF, one of the biggest attacks on the security forces in Chhattisgarh in last seven years, had resulted in the death of 25 CRPF men and injuries to 7 personnel.

Union Minister of State for Home Hansraj Ahir visited Chhattisgarh on Thursday and spent time with policemen at Pollampalli station on Dornapal-Jagargunda road of Sukma.
