Substantial hike in power tariff in Puducherry

Domestic power consumers will hereafter have to shell out additionally a minimum of 40 paise per unit and a maximum of Rs. 1.15 per unit.

As per the tariff order issued by the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC), the energy charge for the consumption of up to 100 units (domestic service) has been increased to Rs.1 per unit from 60 paise.

For consumption of 101-to 200 units per month, the tariff, which was 95 paise per unit, has been hiked to Rs.1.50 and for 201-to 300 units the charge has been increased from Rs.1.80 to Rs.2.80 per unit. The charge for consuming above 300 units per month is increased to Rs.3.50 from 2.35. The order came into effect from April 1. There were about 2.81 lakh domestic consumers in the Union Territory till the end of the financial year 2012-2013, according to the order, which gave projections of the consumer strength.

Commercial category

In the commercial category, the charge for the first 100 units is increased to Rs.3.50 from Rs.2.50. For consumption from 101 to 250 units per month, the tariff, which was Rs.3.70 per unit, has been hiked to Rs.4.50. For above 250 units, the tariff will be Rs.5, which was Rs.4.30.
