A Class X student of a Kolkata school who won the first prize in an essay competition organised by the city police last year served as Deputy Commissioner of Kolkata Police (Traffic) for a day on Wednesday.
Anshu Hari Kumar arrived at the headquarters of the city police, escorted by the Deputy Commissioner of Kolkata Police (Traffic) Dilip Adak, inspected the traffic control room and spoke to officers over telephone.
Ms Hari Kumar, a student of Gurubachan Singh Sondhi High School, suggested that traffic signal lights should not be changed on the basis of automated timers. They should instead be turned on and off depending on the traffic density at important intersections.
She won an essay competition on the topic ‘What I will do if I become DC Traffic for a day’.
