Storm causes havoc in Manipur

More than 200 houses, schools, bus waiting sheds and shops were damaged by a powerful storm that hit Waikhong in Thoubal district of Manipur on Monday morning. Corrugated iron sheets were blown away and mud and bamboo walls destroyed. There was no report of human casualty.

On Sunday, a powerful storm destroyed several houses in Imphal West district. A few dozens of corrugated iron sheets that were blown away from housetops were seen strung along the electric lines.

Manipur has been experiencing torrential rains and storms causing havoc to houses, shops and other constructions.

The government has been distributing financial relief to the affected families. Families, whose houses had been damaged, are taking shelter in community halls and local club buildings.
