Films that try to glorify terrorists should not be given permission for public screening and the Central Board of Film Certification should be careful about it, Punjab Education Minister Daljeet Singh Cheema said here on Sunday. “It should be mindful of the subject matter of films,” Mr. Cheema said on the sidelines of a function organised by the Hind Samachar Group. “Any film that portrays terrorists as heroes should not be given clearance,” he added.

The comments came in the context of the recent controversy over the film Kaum De Heere (Gems of the Community), dealing with the assassination of Indira Gandhi. Another movie, Sukha Zinda , is likely to create a controversy as it is based on the life of the killers of General A.S. Vaidya, under whom the Army carried out Operation Blue Star to flush out militants from the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar.

Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Sunil Jakhar said that film-makers and producers eyeing profits by playing on people’s emotions and creating divisions should be ostracised.
