The Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon (SCMM) announced from the `Roof Top’ of Hotel Trident here on Monday that its eighth edition run on Januaray 16 has raised a record Rs. 12.16 crore for charity. The cumulative figure for eight years stands is Rs. 55 crore.

“This is a superb story of the SCMM and we are now targeting Rs. 25 crore in 2012. This years fund raising has been absolutely phenomenal beating all our expectations ! On behalf of the SC, I salute and thank the spirit of the Mumbaikars who have capitalised the SCMM to make such a positive difference to the great city”, said Sreeram Iyer, Regional Chief Operation Officer, SC.

Releasing the Charity document Mr. K. Sankaranarayanan, Governor of Maharashtra said: “I have been a social worker for many decades and I appreciate the endeavour of this institution, but what is Rs. 25 crore for a city like Mumbai. Its peanuts. It can do much more.”

Awards were presented to individuals who raised maximum money in the Dream Champions, Dream Wizards, Dream Makers, Corporate Challenge, We Care and NGO categories.
