Two rounds of talks between Congress and DMK to arrive on the number of seats that each party will contest for the Assembly polls in the Union Territory has not yielded any results so far.
Though for the second time the core committees from both the sides met on Sunday late in the evening at the Pradesh Congress Committee office, it ended abruptly.
Union Minister of State for Prime Minister's Office and Parliamentary Affairs V. Narayanasamy, who was part of the Congress team for seat sharing, left to New Delhi on Monday morning. He would apprise the leadership about the progress of talks and the meeting would continue only after his arrival, PCC chief A. V. Subramanian told The Hindu .
A senior Congress leader said the DMK had asked for 13 seats up from the 11 it contested during the 2006 polls for the 30-member Legislative Assembly.
On the part of Congress, the party wanted to field 20 candidates, four more than it contested in the last elections.
There is also dispute over sharing of constituencies such as Raj Bhavan, Upplam and Embalom where both the parties have stake, the leader said.
