The former West Bengal Chief Minister and former Punjab Governor, Siddhartha Shankar Ray, was admitted to a private hospital here on Saturday.

The 89-year-old Congressman fell in the bathroom a week ago and since then his legs have showed signs of weakness, according to a source at his south Kolkata residence. His personal staff said that for some days he had been having difficulty moving about owing to leg pain.

A hospital bulletin said Mr. Ray was admitted to the hospital as a precautionary measure. Initial tests, including a CT scan, did not show any significant change, and the results of other tests were awaited. His condition was stable.
