With confusions over producing Aadhaar card number to LPG operators growing by days, a special cell opened in the office Directorate of Census to expedite process of issuing Aadhaar card was crowded by people here on Monday.

The office of Directorate of Census is facilitating collection of biometric data including Iris, fingerprints and photographs from people whose demographic data of 2010 had already been captured. The office said the cell would remain operational till people come with applications.

In an attempt to reduce chaos among LPG customers, government has decided to collect biometric data from wards of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation.

According to Census Directorate, the ward-wise collection of data would commence from January 22. As per the fixture, officials would camp in ward number 10 from January 22 to 24, ward 29 (January 27 to 29), Ward 25 (January 30 to February 1), Ward 24 (February 3 to 5, Ward 23 (February 6 to 8), Ward 22 (February 10 to 12) and Ward 21 (February 13 to 15).

Uncertainty over deadline of Aadhaar card-linked LPG subsidy continues in the State. Eight districts of the State are scheduled to be brought under Aadhaar card-linked LPG subsidy by March 31 in two phases.

For customers in four districts such as Khurda, Bolangir, Cuttack and Puri, January 31 is the deadline for availing LPG subsidy without Aadhaar number while deadline for other four districts, Sonepur, Balasore, Bhadrak and Sundargarh is March 31.

The State government has requested the Union government to extend the deadline of January 31 to March 31 and March 31 to June 30 stating that people have not been issued Aadhaar card number in the State.

Against the targeted population of 3.83 crore, biometric data of 2.46 crore people has been captured whereas only 1.66 crore people have received Aadhaar cards.
