Samajwadi Party MLA Vijay Mishra's daughter was caught on camera handing out money to security guards posted at a jail in Allahabad on Tuesday, after the release of her father.

Mr. Mishra was released on bail on Tuesday evening after spending one and a half years in jail in connection with the bomb attack carried out on former cabinet minister Nand Gopal Nandi in July 2010.

The footage shows Ms. Seema distributing what appear Rs. 500 notes to two security personnel as she leaves the jail compound with her father in an SUV.

After his release from the high-security Naini Central Jail, Mr. Mishra was greeted by his daughter and dozens of party supporters. He distributed sweets among his supporters before taking his seat in his vehicle.

Senior superintendent, Naini Jail, Ambrish Gaur said the security personnel were identified and suspended, and the matter was under investigation. The personnel have been identified as Vijaya Kumar Sonkar and Gulab Chand.

The CCTV footage of the incident could not provide much information since there was too much rush in it, Mr. Gaur had earlier said.

Speaking to journalists after his release, Mr. Mishra said he was framed by those who want to defame him and his arrest in the case was politically motivated. Mr. Mishra also said that the allegations made by the main accused in the case, Anand Shandilya alias Rajesh Pilot, were “lies”. Mr. Pilot had named Mr. Mishra as a conspirator in the case.

The Allahabad High Court granted him bail on Friday. Mr. Mishra, who is the legislator from Gyanpur, was arrested in February 2011. A Sessions court here had rejected Mr. Mishra’s bail application on January 10 this year.

The MLA has 62 criminal cases registered against him. Mr. Nandi's personal guard and the Allahabad correspondent of an English daily were killed in the 2010 bomb attack. Almost a dozen others, including Mr. Nandi, were grievously injured.

Mr. Mishra has not been away from controversy during his jail time. In July, he reportedly visited a temple without court permission during his stay at a hospital. The court had given him permission only to attend the Assembly session.

He, along with another jailed MLA Mukhtar Ansari, was also spotted at a lunch hosted for UPA Presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee in Lucknow on June 3.
