SP invite to ulema eyewash: Congress

November 06, 2013 08:06 pm | Updated 08:06 pm IST - Allahabad

The Congress on Wednesday dismissed as eyewash Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh’s invitation to ulema from various U.P. districts to the SP office for, the party has “failed to protect Muslims who now live in fear and insecurity.”

Despite the SP claiming minority support many times over the past 18 months, communal riots continued to take place, causing damage of life and property, State Congress spokesman Maroof Khan said here.

The SP's “achievements” of building walls in cemeteries and giving greater Muslim representation in its ministry were hollow, he said.

Mr. Khan alleged that crores allotted for Muslim uplift under the Multi Sectoral Development Plan and other programmes were being diverted to other schemes. In fact, the Central schemes for Muslims were “dying a slow death under the SP rule.”
