Ningzamua aka Nicholas (35) who was the "defence secretary" of the Zomi Revolutionary Army, a tribal underground outfit which was one of the signatories to the Suspension of Operations (SoO) was shot dead in his house on Monday night, according to a delayed police report on Wednesday.

Since he was one of the underground leaders who had come overground after signing the SoO he was staying at his house openly and without fear at Guizalong in Churachandpur district.

Some persons who had come in two jeeps on Monday cordoned off his house at 11:30 pm and called him out. Not expecting any trouble he had come out. However, he was hit by a fusillade of bullets in the head and chest in the court yard of his house. He died on the spot. The assailants who were armed with AK series of guns fled in jeeps.

Nothing is known about the identity of the killers. There has been no claim from any underground organisations to the killing. Following such attacks the SoO signatories are in mortal fear.
