The Kanpur-Shatabdi Express, connecting the national capital with the industrial city in five hours, will be flagged off by Congress President Sonia Gandhi from Kanpur on February 7.

Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee had announced the launching of the train in the Railway Budget last year keeping in mind the long-standing demand by business community and general public for a fast train between the two cities.

The Railway Minister will also be present at the flagging-off ceremony.

According to sources in North Central Railway, a few other trains are also expected to be flagged-off the same day by Ms. Gandhi.

Talking to reporters in Kanpur, local MP Sriprakash Jaiswal also informed about the Congress President’s visit to the city to flag off the train.

He said the business community and residents of the city had been demanding a Kanpur Shatabdi for long.
