Solar home lighting systems distributed to J&K villagers

Solar home lighting systems were distributed to about 388 houses in an unelectrified village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Sunday, a State minister said.

The systems were given to the villagers of Sangarwani, 65 kms from here, as part of electrification programme of Union Ministry of New and Renewable energy, Forest minister Mian Altaf told a gathering at the village.

He assured that all those not yet covered under the scheme will be provided such systems soon.

Applauding the efforts of Union minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah in supporting the state government, Mr. Altaf said the Centre as well as the State government are committed towards uplift of people belonging to far flung areas.

He also announced setting up of a Public Health Centre and a girl’s middle school in the village and directed the district administration, soil conservation department among others to prepare a plan to provide employment to the youth.
