She was set ablaze in a school hostel in Rayagada district

A six member team of Odisha Crime Branch has started investigation into the case of sexual exploitation and murder of a contractual woman teacher by setting her ablaze in a school hostel in Rayagada district on October 24 .

The victim had died in a corporate hospital in Visakhapatnam on November 1. But till now the culprit who had set the woman ablaze has not been nabbed. It may be noted that on November 1, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had ordered that this man should be arrested within 24 hours. Both the district police and the Crime Branch personnel are trying hard to track down this unidentified culprit.

Meanwhile, the Crime Branch team which is led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) has enquired about the details of the case from the investigating police officers as well as persons related to the victim at Tikiri. They have also interrogated Netrananda Dandasena (45), the School Inspector involved in the sexual exploitation and attempt to murder of this woman teacher who had been arrested from a place near Ichchapuram in Andhra Pradesh .

Meanwhile, several organisations in Rayagada district have come out with demonstrations demanding strict action against the culprits involved in this gruesome case. On Saturday the teachers and students of the Upper Primary school at Tikiri took out a candlelight rally in memory of the teacher who was serving in the school.

The Congress activists had given a call for a 12-hour bandh in Kashipur block of Rayagada district on Saturday to protest against the sexual exploitation and murder of the teacher.

Congress activists had also held a demonstration at Rayagada town over the same issue. They had demanded CBI enquiry into the case. On Sunday, teachers took out silent rallies at Umerkote in Nabarangpur district and Gunupur in Rayagada district demanding strict action against the culprits involved in the case.

The 27-year-old contractual teacher posted at Tikiri had faced the lethal attack when she refused to withdraw the police complaint she had lodged against Sub-Inspector of Schools, Netrananda Dandasena who had allegedly subjected her to physical and mental harassment for two years. Meanwhile government has suspended Sub-Inspector of Police Muralidhar Pradhan and District Inspector of Schools Dharanidhar Behera for not taking action based on the complaint received from the victim.
