: Six teenagers were killed and 12 others critically injured when lightning struck in Tangi area of Khurda district, 50 km from the capital on Wednesday afternoon.
The victims were playing cricket in a field at Jaripada under Tangi police limit when untimely heavy rain accompanied by hailstorm and lightning lashed different parts of Khurda district in the afternoon. They immediately ran to a nearby dilapidated house to take shelter.
Lightning struck teenagers who were between 12 and 18 years old.
Four of them died on the spot. Two succumbed to injuries while being rushed to hospitals.
