Congress candidate from Maninagar, Shweta Bhatt, today appealed Keshubhai Patel-led Gujarat Parivartan Party to withdraw its candidate from the fray.
Bhatt, the wife of suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt, is contesting the election against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi from Maninagar.
The constituency is considered to be a BJP stronghold.
“I appeal to all the political parties which oppose BJP to support me in my political battle against the Gujarat Chief Minister... I appeal especially to GPP Chief Keshubhai Patel to withdraw his candidate,” Bhatt told reporters.
In her maiden press conference, Bhatt said, “I am confident that Keshubhai will accept my appeal.”
“I am not fighting this political battle for myself alone ... I am fighting it on behalf of entire Gujarat, so those who have faith in Indian constitution and democracy... political outfits and individuals should support me,” she said.
On being asked if she had a chance against Modi, Bhatt said, “Absolutely. I am going to win this election. I am a very new entrant into politics... I have come with a true heart, to speak the truth, and want to do something.”
Asked what would be her response if Keshubhai Patel made a counter appeal, Bhatt said, “So far no such appeal has been made from GPP. If it comes, we would see.”
Replying to a query about complaint filed in a Lucknow court that her husband violated service rules by accompanying her to file nomination, Bhatt said, “I am an Indian woman and would expect my husband to support me in my endeavours. He came to extend moral support to his wife.”

Ms Bhat I am sure there will be surprises in Gujarath this time. You have
my best wishes.
Dear Shweta,
It will not make any difference on result of election and particularly
Maninagar Election, Today no one can beat Narendra Modi from Maninagar
or elsewhere in India. Even if whole congress party put all their weight
for this....
Do not make yourself 2nd 'Amichand' of the Indian History.
Mr. Bhatt is in Govt. service but he is kept under suspension from
holding office and thereby he can't be drafted for Election duty.
Hence he is not under the purview of Election Commission. Being not
holding any office he can't be accused of misusing his official
position or official machinery to promote the interest of a candidate
in the election process. However a person under Govt. service whether
holding office or under suspension is governed by Conduct Rules which
prohibits him from taking political activities. But being the husband
of a candidate his personal rights or duties to safe guard the safety
of his wife can't be curtailed. However if Mr. Bhatt indulges in overt
election canvassing in favour of his wife, he becomes liable for
action under conduct rules. In that movement even without any such
complaint from activists like Mr. Takur, Mr. Modi's Govt. itself will
initiate action against Mr. Bhatt. I hope Mr. Bhatt is also aware of
the situation.
i must thak SANJAY BHATT for revealing his true colours that all these
days, his presumed righteousness he was acting for the opposition party
in Gujarath that is the Congress. So all his statements and deposition
must be taken with a pinch of salt. He has done a great service to Mr.
Modi revealing his political colours. He is not a apolitical upright
bureaucrat, afterall
In view of the great sacrifice for true secularism made by this noble police officer, he should not be harassed any more for this kind of minor infringement.
Mr. Bhatt is helping his better half, should not come under any law, he is first her husband and then IPS officer. He is better supporting his wife openly than those who put official pressure from behind. His support should not attract any law, which forbids support from Govt. officers. This is my opinion.
There is no rule called Indian Administrative
Services(Conduct)Rules,1986. Right one is The All India
Services(Conduct)Rules,1968.
This is the manifestation of Gross indiscipline which is possible only in Indian style of democracy with constitutional bodies only as onlooker. Time for people of Gujarat to teach a lesson.
