With the Trinamool Congress (TMC) to issue showcause notices for anti-party activity to three MPs, Kunal Ghosh, Satabdi Roy and Tapas Pal, the TMC on Saturday dubbed it as an ‘internal matter’.
“Ours is a democratic party and we believe in democratic functioning. The decision has been taken. The disciplinary committee has taken the decision. It is our internal matter,” TMC General Secretary Mukul Roy told reporters in Kolkata.
“I won’t speak further. I told you whatever I am supposed to tell you,” Mr. Roy said at Trinamool Congress Bhavan.
Mr. Roy was asked about the party’s stand on the sharing of dais by three TMC MPs with rebel party MLA Shikha Mitra at a blood donation camp on Friday, where a section of the party leadership was attacked.
Ms. Shikha Mitra had been suspended for openly criticising Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s style of functioning and other matters.
Mr. Kunal Ghosh, the party’s Rajya Sabha member, and whose name figured in the Saradha chitfund scam, on Friday alleged that a section of the party leadership was trying to ignore those who had made sacrifices for the growth of the party.
Ms. Satabdi Roy, a Bengali film actress-turned-politician and TMC Lok Sabha member from Birbhum district, had praised Ms. Shikha Mitra, saying she had the courage to speak the truth.
Mr. Tapas Pal, also an actor, had echoed Ms. Satabdi Roy.
The Trinamool General Secretary said that the Chief Minister’s aggressive development initiatives had earned the TMC full confidence of the people which was reflected in the party securing absolute majority in 13 of the 17 districts in the last panchayat elections.
“Ours is a government of Ma, Mati, Manush (Mother, Land and People) and we have full confidence in the leadership of Mamata Banerjee,” he said.
Mr. Roy had said on Friday that the showcause to the MPs would be issued ‘in a day or two’.
