With the forensic report in the Mohanlalganj rape and murder case pointing towards major laxity in police investigation, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday recommended a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe.
The family members of the victim, who was allegedly raped and then brutally killed on July 16 have been staging a sit-in alleging cover-up by the police and demanding a CBI probe.
Opposition political parties as well as relatives of the security guard, Ram Sewak, the accused in the case, have also been seeking a CBI probe alleging he had been falsely implicated in the case to save some “influential people”.
After an alleged botch up of the post-mortem examination of the deceased, the Chief Minister was forced to set up a two-member inquiry committee to look into it. Meanwhile, the leaked forensicexamination report rubbished the Lucknow police claim that the widow was not sexually assaulted by Ram Sewak and that she died due to excessive blood loss.
The police also failed to answer why the post-mortem examination report mentioned that the deceased had two kidneys despite her family claiming that she had donated one to her late husband. The forensic report reportedly stated that the woman was raped by more than one person and brutally killed later.
Forensic experts have found DNA traces of more than one person under the nails of the victim, whose naked body with injury marks on the head, face and private parts was found in a primary school in Balsinghkheda village in Mohanlalganj area of Lucknow district.
Social activists and women's rights activists have also demanded severe penal action against police officials who are responsible for botching up the investigation.
