Criticising Bharatiya Janata Party’s newly appointed Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, over his remarks on carving out separate Vidarbha state, the Shiv Sena on Wednesday said that as head of this state, he must stress on keeping it united.

Advising the BJP that the real issue is to put Vidarbha on the path of development, the editorial said that the chief minister must not change the track of development to that of separate statehood.

“He (Devendra Fadnavis) stressed that separate Vidarbha will be carved out at appropriate time. He could have easily avoided the issue (of separate statehood). He should have spoken on Vidarbha’s development or on Naxalites. What did he gain by ruining the dream of united Maharashtra?” asked an editorial in Sena mouthpiece Saamna .

Referring to the state assembly elections, the Sena warned the BJP that the latter must not confuse the mandate as peoples’ nod to break the state. “CM’s talk of breaking the state is like the watchman committing a robbery,” it said.

The Sena asked the BJP to make Vidarbha stand in the queue with Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand. “Dividing Andhra Pradesh and supporting it was a crime. But one must remember that Maharashtra will not let go these crimes unnoticed, like it happened in other states,” said the editorial.
