Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde has directed all heads of the agencies associated with the construction of the border fence in Manipur to visit the border areas for making an on-the-spot assessment. The high officials of Border Roads Organisation, Assam Riles, Surveyor of India and others will arrive at Imphal on Saturday. They are likely to go to Moreh, the border town, along with Manipur government officials and representatives of the 13 political parties on Sunday.
The Home Minister and the 22 leaders of the political parties led by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh held a 20-minute meeting at 1 p.m. on Thursday. Mr. Shinde heard some views and expressed the opinion that the high officials and leaders of the political parties should visit the border areas for an on-the-spot assessment.
The Myanmarese army had started constructing camps near Hollenphai village — two km away from the police station at Moreh. It is feared that large chunks of Manipur's territory will go to Myanmar if the construction of the fence is allowed without objections from India.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had assured the political representatives from Manipur that not a single inch of land will be compromised.
