The Delhi Police have registered a case of rioting against the protesters who manhandled West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra outside the Planning Commission office here on Tuesday. No arrests have been made so far.
“A case has been registered at the Parliament Street police station and we are in the process of identifying those involved in the incident. If necessary, we will also approach electronic media groups for footage they captured during the entire action,” said a police officer.
“A protocol officer from the Planning Commission had already been deployed at Gate No. 4 of the complex to receive the Chief Minister and her ministers. However, she chose to enter the complex from the main gate (Gate No. 1) where the protesters had gathered,” said the officer, adding that protocol required visiting ministers to enter the building through Gate No.4.
While Ms. Banerjee on Wednesday said Delhi was not a safe place, sources in the Delhi Police, which had prior information on her scheduled visit to the Planning Commission on Tuesday, said they had offered her a government vehicle (a bulletproof car). “But, she chose to travel in a private car. She did not even allow the security wing to provide a pilot car for the cavalcade,” said another officer.
