A case of sexual harassment at work place was registered on Saturday against the former DIG of Meerut’s Police Training School, Devi Prasad Srivastava, at the ‘Mahila Thana’ (all-woman police station) on the basis of a complaint by a woman sub-inspector.
Other charges against Mr. Srivastava include outraging the modesty of a woman and using sexual innuendos, the acting in-charge of the Mahila Thana said.
Mr. Srivastava is reported to have told authorities that he considered the complainant as his like his daughter and there had been some misunderstanding.
The woman sub-inspector, in a letter to the DGP at Lucknow, complained that the DIG used to summon her to his cabin regularly saying he wanted to learn cybercrime cracking techniques from her. On April 23, he asked her the meaning of some double entendres. When she protested, Mr. Srivastava reportedly told her that he was in love with her because she was the topper in her batch and allegedly grabbed her as she began to leave the room.
The DGP has ordered a preliminary enquiry by ADG Moradabad. Swaranjit Kaur, the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Meerut, will also conduct an enquiry, which will supplement the departmental enquiry being conducted by the ADG, SSP Omkar Singh told TheHindu .
