A seven-year-old boy who sustained serious injuries in a bomb explosion last week, during the fourth phase of the rural polls in West Bengal’s Malda district, succumbed to his injuries at a city hospital on Tuesday.
Abdul Aziz, a victim inthe violence-ridden rural polls where at least 20 persons have been killed, was admitted to the State-run SSKM Hospital on July 23, only a day after he sustained injuries in the explosion.
Two other children playing with the child were also injured in the bomb explosion and are recuperating.
Mamud Sheikh, one of the three children, said they were playing with “balls” inside the house of a Trinamool Congress candidate when the explosion occurred. Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that the bombs were stored inside the house. There were also reports of post-poll violence in other parts of the State. While a supporter of the CPI (M) was killed at Harischandrapur area in Malda district, violence also erupted in Polba area in Hooghly district during the counting process.
State Congress president Pradip Bhattacharya said that the party will approach Governor M.K Narayanan, seeking his intervention.
